For more than three years I walked London photographing what I encountered: people, places, gestures, reflections, collisions and moments that briefly seemed to arrange themselves in front of me.
Nothing was staged. The photographs were not constructed, composited or made to illustrate an idea. They existed independently of CHAOS THEORY.
It was only when I began looking back through them that another London appeared.
The city kept returning as an unstable system: crowded and isolated, controlled and unpredictable, intimate and indifferent. Images made months or years apart began to echo one another. Gestures repeated. Shapes returned. Accidents became patterns. What had looked like disconnected moments began to suggest an underlying order.
CHAOS THEORY grew from that discovery.
The sequencing follows those connections rather than chronology. Photographs accumulate, collide and interrupt one another as the book moves through the city and deeper into its own internal world. A Signal begins to run through it, and a story emerges alongside photographs that were made without any knowledge of that story at all.
The book has a world and a story, but the photographs don’t know they’re in it.
